REGINA - Saskatchewan New Democrats will have their first female party leader in place later today.
The votes will be tallied today to determine whether Carla Beck, MLA for Regina Lakeview, or Kaitlyn Harvey, a lawyer from Saskatoon, will be the first female permanent leader of the NDP.
The leadership convention is being held at the Delta Regina, with registration beginning at noon and the call to order at 1 p.m. in the afternoon.
The day will begin with the tribute to outgoing leader Ryan Meili at 1:30 p.m. followed by the candidate showcases and speeches. The final deadline for party members to vote is at 3 p.m., with plans to announce the results at 3:40 p.m. and for the leader to make her acceptance speech at 3:45 p.m. although it should be noted times are approximate and could be subject to change.
Afterwards, the party plans a "unity party and patio BBQ" at the Q Nightclub and Lounge on Broad Street.
The convention is being live-streamed on the party's website at https://www.facebook.com/SaskNDP.
