LA RONGE - The opposition New Democrats have nominated their candidate seeking to take over from Doyle Vermette as the MLA for Cumberland.

He is Jordan McPhail, a La Ronge councillor and member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band who will be the NDP’s nominee in Cumberland in the general election expected in 2024. He was officially nominated by the party at a nomination meeting on Saturday.

“It is truly an honour to be succeeding my dear friend Doyle as the Saskatchewan NDP candidate here in Cumberland,” said McPhail in a statement. “Our northern communities have so much potential. Despite that, they have been abandoned by this government. The time is now to build a province that leaves no one behind, no matter where in this beautiful province that you live.”

“I’m so excited to have Jordan as our candidate in Cumberland,” said Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck in a statement. “I know he has big shoes to fill but an experienced leader like Jordan is the right person to do that. Jordan will make an excellent MLA for Cumberland.
