REGINA — WestJet has announced the return of several of its Sun routes this winter, meaning the return of direct routes from Saskatoon and Regina to the south.

Here is a rundown of the routes that are being resumed:

Starting Nov. 10, WestJet will resume twice weekly flights to Las Vegas out of Saskatoon and Regina.

Starting Dec. 16, WestJet will resume once a week direct flights to Orlando from Saskatoon and Regina. WestJet had flights from Saskatoon to Orlando on a limited basis in 2021.

Also, starting Nov. 13, WestJet resumes twice a week flights to Cancun from Regina. Again, these flights operated on a limited basis in 2021.

These are just a few of the 17 Sun routes being restored. These routes had been suspended since 2019 due to COVID-19 restrictions, with the airline saying these mark a 45 per cent increase in flights.

Also among the restored routes are several out of Calgary, including weekly flights there to Varadero, Nassau and Belize City. There are also direct flights from Winnipeg to Phoenix and Montego Bay, and from Toronto to Cayo Coco and Samana, among others.

WestJet has also announced a new domestic route between Vancouver and Penticton on WestJet Link, as well as restart of the suspended Edmonton to Nanaimo route.

"The restart of these routes is another positive step in the restoration [of] our network as we solidify WestJet as the reliable, friendly and affordable airline we are known to be," said John Weatherill, WestJet executive vice-president and chief commercial officer, in a statement.

"We recognize the past three winters have been disruptive to our guests travel plans and we look forward to reconnecting Canadians to some of the warmer destinations they have missed the most."
