Wildfire units are used for areas where there is typically no water hydrant service and can also deliver foam.

REGINA - Regina Fire and Protective Services responded to a wildland/grass fire just outside the city Sunday afternoon, according to the fire department's X account.

RFPS says it has two specialized units and a water tanker that are generally responsible for responding to grass and brush fires in and around Regina. Wildfire units are used for areas where there is typically no water hydrant service.

These responses are made under mutual aid and fire service protection agreements. The RFPS currently has 14 such agreements in place, according to the City of Regina's Fire Master Plan. The plan indicates that 10 of those agreements are a decade or more old and require updating in terms of service fees, payments, termination of services and a standard renewal time frame.

The plan suggests a framework be created where RFPS has regular updates regarding fire service, safety matters, and anything that can hinder fire service delivery.

Suggested revisions for many of the agreements include standardized terms, fees and annual cost increases as well as ensuring the City of Regina is not obliged to deal with insurers of the party that has requested aid.
