Patrol vehicle stolen after man arrested for public intoxication

At approximately 1:30 a.m., April 27, officers were on patrol on 22nd Street near Avenue P when a man unexpectedly entered the roadway in front of them.

SASKATOON - Saskatoon Police are investigating after a patrol vehicle was stolen when officers were engaged in a public intoxication investigation on Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., April 27, officers were on patrol on 22nd Street near Avenue P when a man unexpectedly entered the roadway in front of them. Upon further assessment, officers learned he was intoxicated and carrying open liquor. When officers approached the man, he fled and a brief foot pursuit ensued before he was taken into custody.

Upon returning to the scene, the officers were unable to locate the patrol vehicle and it was determined to have been stolen.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., using the patrol vehicle’s GPS, it was located, abandoned, in a back alley in the 1600 block of 29th Street West.

The incident remains under investigation.
