Paramedic Services Week is a time to show our gratitude and appreciation to the paramedics who work every day to keep us and our communities safe.  According to the Paramedic Chiefs of Canada, the theme of Paramedic Services Week is “Faces of Paramedicine”.

This year, it will be celebrated in Canada from May 23 to 29.

In celebration of Paramedic Services Week, we featured local "Faces of Paramedicine".

Name: Sage Iatridis

How long have you served as an EMS?

Two and a half years. I started out as an EMR in Stoughton and furthered my education to a Primary Care Paramedic and have been a part of Weyburn EMS for a year now.

What is the most important day-to-day responsibilities?

As a front-line worker we have many roles and responsibilities, but the most important is to always be ready.  We respond to high stress situations 365 days a year, all hours of the day. When there is an emergency, people depend on us to show up and be ready to help.

What is your favourite community interaction?

Personally, I enjoy teaching about injury prevention whenever the opportunity presents itself. Whether it be on a call with a patient, to doing workshops at local events, I’m always happy to help and share the knowledge that I have with others.

The Paramedics with Heart Foundation is a great example of ways Weyburn Emergency Services is trying to be more involved within the community.

Why did you choose a career in EMS?

I wanted to work with people and being able to make a difference in someone’s life. In the beginning, I was attracted to the fast pace and high pressure situations, but realized quickly just how rewarding a career in EMS can be.
