Local artists tried their hand at a collage workshop in the Estevan Arts Council's craft room on Sunday.
Kim Ennis hosted the craft workshop, he also adjudicated the Ev Johnson Memorial Adjudicated Art Show and at the collage workshop he was guiding participants’ in their purist of artistic expression.
The craft workshop was a one-time event in association with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils. The workshop ran during the morning time early Sunday.
Ennis himself some time ago went through the entire provincial arts council adjudicating process and his work did tour the province as a traveling exhibit.
“The idea is to get around the planning mode and get back into a playful mode where you just do things and see what happens, it is intended not to create a particular object or something of value but rather to practice using intuition and just going ahead in doing things in a playful manner,” said Ennis.
Unlike the recent Ev Johnson Memorial Adjudicated Art Show with high stakes and stricter rules the workshop was intended to be a very freeing event for its participants.
“This is a exercise I use when I teach painting classes and I also practice it in my own studio, too many people just get caught up in trying to produce a masterpiece and that just doesn’t work,” said Ennis.
