A new retail outlet, RONA Weyburn, was opened on Thursday morning with the cutting of a board in front of the main doors, completing 12 weeks of renovations.
Mayor Marcel Roy cut the board, after he gave greetings for the grand opening from the City of Weyburn, along with dealer-owner Jeff Chessall, MLA Dustin Duncan, Weyburn Chamber of Commerce manager Twila Walkeden, and a number of dignitaries from RONA and Lowe’s Canada on hand for the ceremonies.

The store features a 10,000-square-foot sales area, a 25,000-sq-ft. lumber yard and a 3,000-sq-ft garden centre, with over 7,500 products throughout the various departments.
“This project grew out of our desire to meet the community’s home improvement needs here in Weyburn, while making good use of the experience and expertise acquired in managing our other businesses,” said Chessall.
Also part of the ceremonies, representatives from the Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop were on hand, as Meagan McLeod and Josh Baun presented a bench made at the Wor-Kin Shop to Chessall. Baun is a participant in the Wor-Kin-Shop programs, and is employed at the store through the Supported Employment program, which Chessall has supported for the past three years.
The Wor-Kin Shop’s Supported Employment program provides support for individuals who need just a little extra support in finding success on the job.
The Weyburn store has launched a fundraiser as part of the Lowe’s Canada Heroes campaign, where they will take donations at the till and through various activities until Sept. 30 to support the programs at the Wor-Kin Shop.
At the end of the fundraising event, Lowe’s Canada will match 50 per cent of all donations up to $2,000.
“We are proud to contribute to the inspiring work of Wor-Kin Shop, especially since one of our employees benefits from its program. He is proof not only of the excellent services provided, but also of the organization’s beneficial contribution to the lives of dozens of our fellow citizens,” said Chessall.
