John Brownlee and his wife, who was born and raised in Carlyle, have lived in the community for the last 20 years. They raised their four children in the town as well.
Brownlee is an avid outdoorsman, as he enjoys camping, hunting and fishing but also makes time to volunteer for his community.
Brownlee is one of two incumbents running for council in the 2020 civic election. He was on council before and is hopes he can help the council move forward with certain projects.
“The reason I am running again is because I want to give back to my community. I also want to see some projects that the current council have started, get completed.”
One of the projects that Brownlee is referring to is to hire a recreation director/facilities manager as most of the facilities are ran by volunteers.
“Most of the facilities are run by volunteers and some groups are having a hard time finding volunteers. A recreation director/facilities manager will take the stress off the groups that are having a hard time finding volunteers or getting played out,” Brownlee states. “With that said though, I want to thank all of the volunteers that we do have in the community because without them we would not have what have in our community today.”
Brownlee states that he is happy with the direction of council in this most recent term, as they have been optimistic by looking more into the future, by getting a snapshot of the current infrastructure and by starting an assets management plan.
Brownlee also said he enjoys working with many different groups of people in the community and getting to know them and what they need to make their home a better place.
“The thing I have enjoyed the most is working with different groups, getting to know different people and learning about the needs of others.”
