Post-secondary students at Southeast College will receive a boost in financial support from the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show and Enbridge Pipelines, as both organizations recently made $5,000 donations.
These contributions will be matched by the Ministry of Advanced Education’s Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunity Scholarship program to create $20,000 in scholarships and bursaries, which will be awarded over the next two years.
These funds will be directed to the college’s Fueling the Future program, which is designed to support full-time post-secondary students in pursuit of future industry careers.
The Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show and Enbridge funding will benefit students pursuing third and fourth class power engineering, electrician, industrial mechanics, welding, and heavy equipment and truck and transport courses.
“Enbridge is committed to help fuel the quality of life in our communities and education plays such an important role to that end,” said Les Scott, community relations advisor for Enbridge. “We are proud to support southeast Saskatchewan students studying in a variety of different disciplines, all of which are relevant to our particular industry.”
“Creating industry-related educational opportunities has always been something that the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show supports,” added Del Mondor, Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show board chair. “The opportunity to have our funds matched by the Ministry of Advanced Education to help support local post-secondary students just makes perfect sense.”
“Southeast College is grateful to the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show and Enbridge for choosing to invest in our students and ultimately in the future workforce of their industry,” said Jeff Richards, Southeast College’s vice-president of strategic development.
“All of our Fueling the Future partnerships demonstrate a commitment to growing our communities and our economy through the power of education.”
Students who are currently enrolled and have applied for scholarships and bursaries will be considered for the Saskatchewan Oil & Gas Show and Enbridge awards. Over $100,000 in additional scholarship and bursaries are also made available thanks to the support received from local donors and other industry partners.
The college will award all scholarships and bursaries in the spring at its annual industry-education luncheons. The luncheon for Estevan will be on May 17.
