Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) continue to receive a large number of calls from people being targeted by a scam involving the Canada Revenue Agency.
Police reported a couple times last week they had received numerous calls about the scam. Officers remind the public to not give out any personal information or to send any money to these individuals.
Anyone who is targeted by this scam is asked to call the police or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
In other recent police activity, officers are looking into a complaint of criminal harassment between two females that occurred during the June 20 day shift. Charges are pending against one of the females.
Members responded to a disturbance in the downtown area. A male and a female were sent on their separate ways.
Police patrolled the Estevan Exhibition grounds each night during the fair. One incident on June 20 required police intervention, as an argument broke out. All parties were sent on their way and no further police action was required.
Members received a report of a possible impaired driver during the June 20 night shift. The vehicle was located and checked, and the driver was sober.
Several traffic tickets were issued during the evening for speeding, and for disobeying red lights and stop signs.
A 37-year-old man from Medicine Hat, Alberta, was arrested and charged during the June 21 day shift for assault and breaching his release conditions after a complaint of an unruly person was made to EPS. He was released in front of a justice of the peace and will appear in court in August to answer to the charges.
A 26-year-old woman from Medicine Hat was arrested on outstanding warrants for taking an automobile without consent and for failing to comply with a court order. She was released for court in Shaunavon in August.
Police and the Estevan Fire and Rescue Service were called to a collision on Perkins Street. One vehicle was towed from the scene.
Numerous parking tickets were issued during the June 21 night shift for people who parked in the fire lanes near Affinity Place.
Police also received a complaint of people throwing rocks at vehicles on Souris Avenue North. The matter is under investigation.
Members were notified that an intoxicated male mistakenly dialled 911 and did not speak to the operator. The origin of the call was traced and reported to police, so they could check on the individual. It proved to be a false call and police warned the caller.
A 30-year-old Torquay man is facing charges of driving while impaired and driving while over .08 after a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 47 and Morsky Drive during the June 22 night shift. He also faces several charges under the Traffic Safety Act, and will appear in court in August to answer to the charges.
Members received a report during the June 23 day shift of a male criminally harassing a female. The matter is still under investigation.
Police were notified of the smell of marijuana coming from a condo complex. Police attempted to locate the origin of the odor. The matter is still under investigation.
Officers received a report of a suspicious vehicle near a public school. Police attended and determined it was a parent of a student.
Members monitored traffic in work zones on city streets. Drivers were stopped and spoken to.
Police and Estevan Fire and Rescue attended to a report of power lines rubbing trees and causing a fire. SaskPower was called to the location to resolve the matter.
Officers received a report of a suspicious male in the Hillside area carrying garbage bags. Police were unable to locate him.
Members were notified of an unauthorized driver at Woodlawn Regional Park. Police could not locate the motorist.
Police tended to a domestic dispute in the core area. One of the individuals was transported from the residence.
Members charged a 69-year-old Estevan man with assault during the June 23 night shift. The charge stemmed from an incident that occurred outside a restaurant earlier this month. He will appear in court in August.
Officers received a report of a suspicious driver during the June 24 day shift. Information determined the vehicle was registered and the owner is from Estevan.
Police were called about a youth who was seen getting into a vehicle while carrying alcohol and drug paraphernalia. The youth was identified but the vehicle was not located. The matter is still under investigation.
Members received a report of suspicious vehicles gathering at a local parking lot during the June 24 night shift. Police attended and spoke to the vehicle owners who were socializing.
A harassment complaint was received during the June 25 day shift. The accused male was asked to stop contacting the complainant by phone, text, email or indirectly through another person.
Police were also notified that four people left a hotel without paying. The matter is still under investigation.
Officers received a report of a theft involving roommates during the June 25 night shift. The matter is still under investigation.
Police were called to a party complaint on King Street. The party had moved on before police arrived.
Officers received a report of loud vehicles driving up and down the streets. Police will continue to monitor the situation.
Police were called to a party complaint in the Westview area. The homeowner was warned of the bylaw.
Members responded to a residential alarm in the west end of the city. Upon arrival, police learned it was a domestic situation. Police mediated and one of the parties left for the evening.
Police were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident during the June 26 day shift. The vehicles needed to be towed, but no injuries were reported.
Members received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line early during the June 26 night shift. The vehicle was eastbound on Highway 39 between Macoun and Hitchcock. Police stopped the vehicle and checked the driver before the city limits and determined the driver was not impaired, but was not attentive to her driving. She was warned accordingly.
Police arrested a 24-year-old Regina male for possession of marijuana. He possessed 33 grams of marijuana, and another 22 grams of chocolate containing marijuana. He will appear in court on Sept. 12.
The Regina Police Service executed a number of warrants for the EPS during the night shift.
