Students, teachers and guests filled the Estevan Comprehensive School’s (ECS) cafetorium on Wednesday night to celebrate the achievements and efforts made throughout the year.

Awards, scholarships and bursaries were handed out to deserving students, bringing in applause and cheers from the proud teachers and families in the audience.

Some of the notable accolades handed out were the Nick and Verna Morsky Outstanding Leadership Scholarship that went out to both Avery Dechief and Mia Hanson, and the Board Proficiency Awards received by Grade 10 student Marlie Weinrauch, Mackenzie Holman, Grade 11 and Amber Hammermeister of Grade 12.

The Lions Club Service Award was given to Renai Easton, Kourtney Kobitz and Thomas Wakely this time around and Kobitz also took the Estevan Power and Energy Social Club Scholarship along with Jay Rabari.

The Mr. and Miss ECS Awards went to Sarah Dacuycuy and Jonah Bachorcik for the Grade 9 category, Reese Handley and Nathan Littlefield for Grade 10, Tatiana Dutka and James Kim took the Grade 11 awards and Tia Dayman and Jordan Fichter were this year’s Grade 12 winners.

The amount of bursaries and scholarships awarded, numbering in the dozens, are of particular note, with thousands of dollars handed out to help students who went above and beyond the call of duty in school participation reach the next steps of their education.

Post secondary institutions, local businesses, service clubs and other generous donors put up the funds for the financial prizes.

All in all it was a great night for ECS with roughly 100 honours given and received for the exceptional accomplishments its students pulled off during the 2016/17 school year.
