Town of Redvers adopts new logo

"“I drew inspiration and created a new, sleek, modern logo for the Town of Redvers," said Jena Cowan.

MOOSOMIN- Redvers Town Council approved of a new logo for the town created by Assistant CAO Jena Cowan, during a meeting on February 2.

Cowan wrote a letter to the town to explain why it was time for a new logo.

“Within discussions in the office and with various vendors over the last few years, the ‘busyness’ of our logo has been mentioned, and also the fine detail, while accurate to our community, is too small for publishing and printing purposes,” said Cowan.

Cowan said the discussion reminded her of some of the economic development workshops she had attended in early 2020, and how Indian Head was mentioned for its phenomenal economic development efforts. She says while researching that town she was drawn to their “simple yet memorable logo.”

“In this, I drew inspiration and created a new, sleek, modern logo for the Town of Redvers,” said Cowan.“I believe a modern and forward thinking community needs a logo that would market them as such.”

Council liked the new logo and will be moving forward to get the logo digital and print ready for future use.

Town purchasing new lift for handi van

Council passed a motion to order a new lift for their transit bus. The lift will cost $10,000.

The bus, which is a 2014 model, is in good shape, but the lift has been having some problems. After looking into repairs for the lift, it was decided that simply purchasing a new lift was the best way to go.

Hindley replies to rural ambulance issue

After writing a letter to Everett Hindley, Minister of Rural and Remote Health, regarding issues with rural ambulance service, the town received a reply from Hindley last week.

“The Ministry of Health and the SHA are aware of the challenges within the EMS system and are currently working on a multi-year EMS stabilization plan to address staffing issues in a number of communities across the province,” wrote Hindley. “In the interim, the SHA continues its recruitment efforts in a number of its EMS services across the province, including Redvers. We appreciate the work of the Redvers Health Foundation in supporting primary care training for three local members and would like to encourage the community to continue to work with the SHA to determine service needs.”

The letter also noted the town’s work towards putting in a concrete landing pad for STARS air ambulance at the fire hall.

“We would like to thank the community for reaching out to the Ministry of Health and STARS with their interest to build a concrete landing pad at the Redvers Fire Department to improve patient care and safety,” said Hindley.

“It is the ministry’s understanding that the current temporary landing zone at the fire department is appropriate. However if the community is interested in investing in a concrete landing pad, we would recommend that it work with the Ministry, STARS and the SHA to identify an alternate location for the landing pad where an ambulance is not required to transport the patient between the landing zone and the health facility.”

Council did not take the minister up on the offer and will be continuing with the concrete landing pad at the fire hall. All funding is in place for that project and construction is expected to start this spring.

FCM gives update on policing cost issue

The town received a letter from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities regarding concerns about retroactive pay for RCMP officers being passed on to municipalities.

The FCM was providing an update on their work on the issue. The FCM has been in talks with the federal government about retroactive policing costs being covered by the federal government instead of municipalities, so that municipalities don’t see a large increase in policing costs.

FCM provided templates for the town to use should they want to contact their local media regarding the issue, or share key messages about the issue in conversations they are having about it.

Council noted the letter and were happy for the work the FCM was doing.

Council budgets for new library flooring

The town received a letter from Redvers Librarian Michelle Jensen regarding the need for new flooring at the library. Jensen said the library is looking at a total cost of between $10,000 and $12,000 for new flooring, which would be split between the town and the RM.

The library will be applying for a grant in hopes of helping to cover the costs, but the town noted the cost and will include it in their 2022 budget.

Town working on agreement for alley

Council passed a motion to send letters to all land owners on Block 10 of Methuen Street to see if the land owners would sign an agreement to let the land in the back of their properties be maintained as an alley.

The land is currently being used as an alley, however the land has never been titled as such, and is privately owned by each property. After contacting each of the residents on that block, CAO Tricia Pickard told council that most of them would like the land to be maintained as an alley and be willing to sign an agreement to that effect, allowing the town onto their property to maintain it.

SEDA membership renewed

Council passed a motion to renew their membership with the Saskatchewan Economic Development Alliance. The town has been a member since 2017.
