The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce met with Member of Parliament for Souris- Moose Mountain, Dr. Robert Kitchen to discuss the significant impact the rail blockades may have on local businesses in this area.

This was a collaborative discussion that also included representatives from the City of Weyburn, Rural Municipality of Weyburn and Weyburn Regional Economic Development.

“Today there was a productive conversation that allowed our local voices to be heard with respect to the disruption in our economy resulting from both the rail blockades and the federal government’s climate change policy which has resulted in a lack of investor confidence in Canada,” commented Reed Anderson, incoming president of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce. “Dr. Kitchen has committed to taking our concerns back to Ottawa with respect to the issues identified today.”

According to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the very fabric of our country is being threatened by the devastating impact of the CN rail blockades. The economic impact is being felt throughout the country within the hundreds of thousands of businesses that rely on rail transportation. The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce is joining hundreds of other chambers of commerce across the country to demand immediate action to be taken to resolve these issues which has the potential to impact businesses of all sizes.
