Who says Weyburn and Estevan athletes can’t get along?
The SE Connection team – made of synchronized swimmers from the Estevan Mermaids and Weyburn Stars teams – performed well last weekend at the Sandra Roberts meet in Regina’s Lawson Aquatic Centre, with local swimmers taking away medals and titles.
A total of 24 athletes from the clubs took part in the weekend. Gemma Bittman was in first place in 16-18 year old girls Figures with a score of 58.08, with Nyla Dyck in second place at 56.50 and Alexis Vandermay at 56.33. Savannah Pohl was in eight place (55.08), Marlie Weinrauch was in ninth place (55.00) and Hannah Mantei finished 10th (54.66), helping the SE Connection team to first place.
In solos, Vandermay had the first place routine at 57.20 for a winning combined mark of 113.53, with Mantei placing second in routine (56.23) for fourth in the championship mark. Dyck and Weinrauch placed fifth as a team with 53.66 giving them second in the championship mark.
In the 13-15 year old girls, three of the eight competitors made the top 20. In figures, Halley Copeland was eighth at 56.49, Meagan Dammann was 11th at 54.58 and Rebecca Duncan was 19th at 52.33. The Mermaids finished in sixth place overall. In solos, Copeland was fifth of nine with a score of 53.50, giving her third place with a championship mark of 109.99, and in duets, Dammann and Marley Kradovill were fourth overall at 52.69, for a championship mark of 105.66.
In the 11-12 year old girls, Gracie Dzuba was the top-ranking mermaid with a rank of 15th out of 37 and a score of 50.9165. The Mermaids were the fourth ranked team.
In 10 and under, Rachel Duncan placed sixth of 18 with a score of 47.74 in figures.
