Ian McDougall

Ian McDougall passed away October 20, 2016 at 93 years of age in the Weyburn General Hospital. He was predeceased by his father Hugh (1939); mother Hellen (nee: Hay, 1975), sister Alice (Alex Jr., Edmonton 1996); his brother Kenneth (1997) and nephew Alex (Edmonton 2008).He is survived by his brother Alan (Weyburn); sister Shirley (Gary and children Donna, Diana, and Debbie of Ontario); the children of Alice (Shirley, Kathleen, Laurie, Shauna and Carol of Edmonton); as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, and New Zealand. Ian attended Little Butte School, west of Tribune, until the untimely passing of his father in 1939. At age 15 he became the patriarch of the family, helping his mother with the farm homesteaded by his father, which almost reached the Centennial Family Farm mark. He loved farming and only stopped when his vision deteriorated from macular degeneration. He sold the farm and homestead in 2008 taking residence at Bison Manor in Weyburn. He enjoyed the fellowship and activities held there until spring of 2016, when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He recovered from surgery but was not able to stop the progression of the cancer and passed from complications of the disease. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Weyburn General Hospital’s staff of nurses, aides, physiotherapists, social workers, dietitians and to Dr. Beheshti and his office staff who have provided compassionate care to Ian during his illness. The family is adhering to Ian’s wishes to be cremated without service. There will be a private interment at the Colgate Cemetery at a later date. For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Ian may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements were entrusted to RD Family Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, Weyburn, SK  (848-0333 ~ 1-888-848-0333). Expressions of sympathy to the family may be sent to our website at www.rdfamilymemorialchapel.com “Our Family Serving Your Family”.
