MOOSOMIN — Work on resurfacing Highway 8 between Moosomin and Rocanville will be starting right away, with culvert installation starting on Feb. 3, and resurfacing scheduled to begin by May 12.
The project will include culvert installations by boring method and 24.07 kilometres of asphalt concrete resurfacing between Moosomin and Rocanville.
Moosomin-Montmartre MLA Kevin Weedmark said he is happy to see the project move forward.
“Highway 8 between Moosomin and Rocanville is a very busy highway with more than 1,900 vehicles a day travelling on it, making it by far the busiest north-south highway in the riding. I’m pleased to say that new culverts will be installed and the highway will be resurfaced this year.”
Langenburg Redi-Mix Ltd. is the contractor for the project.
Culvert installation by boring method will begin Feb. 3 and is expected to be completed by March 20. Roadwork is scheduled to begin by May 12 and is expected to be completed, weather permitting, by Oct. 17.
The estimated total cost of this project is $12.7 million, including materials, construction engineering, and PST.
Within the culvert installation zone, traffic will be slowed down to 60 km/hour and during paving operations in the summer, traffic will be slowed down to 60 km/hour and single lane in the construction zone with the contractor using a pilot vehicle within the limits of the working area.
