The Moosomin Rangers have advanced to the Big Six semifinals.

MOOSOMIN - The Moosomin Rangers have joined the Redvers Rockets and the Carlyle Cougars in the semifinals of the Big Six Hockey League playoffs.

Second-ranked Moosomin doubled up the No. 7 Kipling-Windthorst Oil Kings 6-3 on Feb. 7 to win the best-of-five quarter-final series in three straight games. The Rangers, who won the Big Six last season, will face third-ranked Carlyle in the semifinal round.

Moosomin and Kipling-Windthorst were tied at 1-1 after the first period. Monty Driver opened the scoring for Moosomin early in the first, but Carson Harcourt replied for the Oil Kings.

Brayden Holloway, Taylor Sanheim and Dustin Fisher scored for Moosomin early in the second to put the Rangers up by three. Kai Jooristy tallied for the Oil Kings with a second to play in the middle frame, but goals by Fisher and Sanheim in the opening 5:18 of the third put the game, and the series, away.

Aaron Roth's goal for the Oil Kings late in the third finished the scoring.

Levi Horn was in goal for Moosomin, while Dylan DeDecker was the Oil Kings' goalie.

The only first-round series yet to be decided in the Big Six is the Highway 18 showdown between the No. 4 Carnduff Red Devils and the fifth-ranked Oxbow Huskies. Oxbow leads that series 2-1. The Huskies had an opportunity to clinch by winning Game 3 Feb. 6, but Carnduff staved off elimination with a 4-3, double-overtime victory.

Colton Schell opened the scoring for Oxbow in the first, but Mark Moriarty and Ben Hiltz tallied less than two minutes apart late in the first period to put Carnduff up by one. Cody Davis' goal in the second tied the game.

Derek Cooney's goal a minute into the third put Oxbow back in the lead, but Ty Stovin's goal a few minutes later tied the game again.

It remained a 3-3 game until Matthew Plews scored the winner 14:35 into the second overtime period.

Cody Dumaine (Carnduff) and Cody Levesque (Oxbow) were the goalies.

Game 4 is set for Feb. 11 in Oxbow, starting at 8 p.m. A date for Game 5, if necessary, hasn't been established. The winner of the Oxbow-Carnduff showdown will face top-ranked Redvers in the semifinal round.

Carnduff will be busy with provincials as well, as the Red Devils are in Canora on Feb. 8 for Game 2 of the best-of-three senior C south quarter-finals. Canora leads the series 1-0 after winning 5-2 in Carnduff on Jan. 31. Game 3, if necessary, would be Feb. 9 in Canora.

Also, the Carlyle Cougars are getting ready to begin their provincial quest. They will host Raymore on Feb. 9 at 2:30 p.m. in Game 1 of the best-of-three senior A south quarter-final series. Game 2 is set for Feb. 14 in Raymore and Game 3 would be two nights later, also in Raymore.
