Baseball season begins for Southeast Twins, Estevan Brewers

Estevan U18 and U15 AA Brewers have enjoyed great starts to the season.

ESTEVAN - The South East U18 AAA Twins began their season by splitting four road games.

The Twins dropped their season opener 6-2 on Saturday against the Regina White Sox, but recovered to defeat Regina 10-1 in the second half of a doubleheader. Then they went 1-1 on Sunday in games against the Moose Jaw Canucks, losing 12-9 but responding with a 7-5 win.

Keaton Husband has led the way offensively for the Twins so far, going 7-for-9 and leading the team with eight runs batted in (RBI). Conner Kerr has scored five times so far.

Caden Dorrance has the team's lone home run this year.

Kerr and Sam Mallory have picked up the team's wins on the mound this year, and Kerr has allowed just one earned run in seven innings pitched.

Up next for the Twins will be the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League's 18U AAA Selects tournament from May 17-19, with games against Moose Jaw, the White Butte Broncos and the Calgary Bucks Orange.

The Estevan U18 AA Brewers are 4-0 to start the season. They swept home games against the Moose Jaw Canucks on Saturday, winning 9-1 and 6-5, and then they defeated the Regina Blue Jays 7-6 and 10-5 on Sunday.

Jayden Kuchinka has a .583 batting average after starting the season 7-for-12. Included in the offensive barrage is a home run. He also leads the team with five RBIs and six runs. Jaxon Kuchinka has four runs and four RBIs.

Jayden Kuchinka, Axton Martin, Jacob Mayer and Sutter Baily have picked up wins on the mound. Mayer didn't allow a run in his start.

The Brewers' next action will be May 19 when they visit the North Battlefords Beavers.

The South East U15 AAA A's, based out of Alameda, have had a tough start to the season at 1-6. Their lone victory came on Saturday, when they won 5-3 over the East Central Dodgers in the second half of a doubleheader – the lone home game for the A's this season. The A's scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.

Seth Franklin and Rogen Didrick each had two RBIs for the Twins. Didrick was also great on the mound, allowing three runs, two of them unearned, in 6 2/3 innings for the A's. He struck out six.

The Estevan U15 AA Brewers opened their season with three straight victories.

Estevan defeated the Weyburn Beavers 13-6 on Thursday night, highlighted by a six-ruin second inning and another six runs in the fifth. Kyson Dangstorp led the Brewers with two RBIs.

Aiden Turner started for the Brewers and didn't allow a hit in two innings.

On Sunday, the Brewers won two straight over the Regina Athletics. In the first game, a 17-7 win, Broden Henry went 3-for-4, including a solo home run and a triple, to pace the Estevan attack.

Estevan came back to win decisively despite trailing 6-0 in the third inning, but they scored six times to tie the game, and added eight in the fourth.

Kale Kuchinka surrendered four hits and six runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out eight and walking one to get the win.

In the second game, a 12-8 Estevan win, Kale Kuchinka drove in four runs on three singles to lead the Brewers. Henry and Barker also had three hits.

Henry gave up four hits and three runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking one.

The Estevan U13 AAA Brewers are 2-1 to start the season. They won 18-17 over Yorkton in their home opener on Saturday and then split games against White Butte on Sunday, winning 6-3 but losing 9-3.

Estevan is to host Weyburn on May 18 at 2 and 4 p.m.

The Estevan U11 AAA Brewers are 0-3-1 to start this season. Their tie game on Sunday afternoon, a 14-14 game against the Regina Wolfpack. All four games were on the road.
