Calls to Estevan police result in arrest of impaired driver

The driver was seen passed out in the driver’s seat at a business in the downtown area.

It's been a busy long weekend for the Estevan Police Service.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service apprehended an impaired driver May 19 after receiving two calls about his driving actions.

Police received a call for an impaired motorist coming into Estevan on Highway 18. A description and licence plate number were provided, but members were not able to locate the vehicle.

A second call came in approximately two hours later for the same vehicle. The driver was seen passed out in the driver’s seat of the vehicle at a business in the downtown area. Members attended and arrested a 63-year-old man from Torquay for impaired operation. He will speak to his charges later in July.

Police received a report of a male driving erratically in a parking lot. Statements are pending and that matter remains under investigation.

The EPS arrested an Estevan woman on outstanding warrants on May 17.

In a report, the EPS said members attended to a residence in an effort to apprehend the woman, who was unlawfully at large and had numerous arrest warrants. She remained in the building, and police obtained a search warrant to enter the residence and arrest her. 

She was located and was lodged in cells to appear before a justice of the peace, and to be remanded for a future Provincial Court appearance.

Police also received a report of an impaired driver coming into Estevan. Members patrolled the area and around the city but the driver was not located.

Members were dispatched to a residence in the Westview area for an uttering threats allegation. The matter remains under investigation.

Police assisted in locating the owner of a found wallet. A person dropped off the wallet at a local business and the EPS was able to contact the owner, advising him of where to pick it up.

Officers were dispatched to a local business for a report of uttering threats. A 22-year-old man from Estevan was arrested and charged. He will appear in court in July to speak to his charges.

Police received a report of a female in a business dumpster who refused to leave after being asked to by the staff. Police attended and warned her about getting charged. She left at the direction of the police.

Members received a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex in the Pleasantdale area. A male was arrested for mischief and causing the disturbance. He was lodged in cells for the night and released once sober.

Police received a request from Emergency Medical Services to attend and assist with a female in distress in a local parking lot. Police attended and she was transported by EMS without incident.

Officers were called May 18 to a local service station for a report of shoplifting. A 51-year-old Estevan man was arrested and charged. He was released and will appear in court on those charges in July.

Police received a reported hit and run. Members located all parties involved and a collision report was compiled.

Members were dispatched to a residence for a report of a possible disturbance. Police attended and the occupants of the residence would not speak with officers. Police canvassed neighbours, but there was not enough evidence to proceed with an investigation. No further incidents were reported.
