ESTEVAN - The matters of William Joshua Curtis and Tyler Mark Wyatt were back in front of Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.

Curtis has been in custody since April after he was charged with 10 offences, including attempted murder, stemming from a shooting on April 8.

When the case was before the court on Monday, it was noted the Crown had requested a second opinion for a not-criminally responsible report. The Crown's doctor interviewed Curtis on Friday, and there wasn't enough time to file a report for court on Monday. The case has been adjourned to Nov. 18 at 9:30 a.m. Curtis has been in custody since the incident.

Background: Curtis is charged with one count each of attempted murder by discharging a firearm; pointing a firearm; discharging a firearm; aggravated assault; possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence; uttering threats; manufacture of ammunition while unauthorized; and possession of a firearm while prohibited. He is also charged with two counts of manufacture of a firearm while unauthorized.

According to the EPS, Curtis fled the scene after the shooting. Residents in southwest Estevan were asked to shelter in place. Up to 40 officers from different agencies were deployed in Estevan during the response. While containing the scene and searching for Curtis, the EPS said they determined he had barricaded himself in a residence.

Meanwhile, Wyatt continues to face charges in connection with his brief escape from custody on Sept. 13. His attorney recently received new disclosure and wants the opportunity to review it with Wyatt, so his matter was adjourned to Nov. 18 in Estevan Provincial Court.

Wyatt remains in custody.

Background: Wyatt is facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime and resisting a police officer, related to an incident in Bienfait on Sept. 11, and one count each of escaping lawful custody, resisting a police officer and breaking and entering with intent, stemming from an escape from police custody on Sept. 13. He was at St. Joseph's Hospital at the time of his escape.

None of the charges against Curtis or Wyatt have been proven in court.
