ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service officer who was charged with assault and other offences late last year was back in Estevan Provincial Court on Monday.

Const. Vaughn Golden is charged with one count each of assault, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000 and violating his release conditions. His matters were adjourned to March 17, also in Estevan.

Background: The provincial Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) announced late in 2024 that it had laid charges against Golden, after the EPS had notified SIRT of an allegation of interpersonal violence involving the member. He was arrested by SIRT investigators.

He was released with several conditions, including a non-contact order with one of the accusers. Golden was placed on non-uniform, administrative duties by the EPS after his arrest.

On Dec. 22, the EPS notified SIRT that Golden was believed to have had contact with one of the individuals despite the release order. Following a comprehensive review of the evidence gathered both by the EPS and SIRT, it was determined that reasonable grounds existed to believe Golden had committed a Criminal Code offence.

Golden has been relieved of his duties and is on a paid leave under the Police Act.

The charges have not been proven in court.
