Estevan Bruins drop first two games after Christmas break

ESTEVAN - The Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins went 0-for-2 in their return to the ice from the SJHL's Christmas break.

Estevan lost 7-3 to the Yorkton Terriers on Friday night in Yorkton – a game the Terriers led 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 after two. Kent Moors, Kaelen Whittingham and Luke Hogan had the Estevan goals.

Keenan Ingram had four goals and an assist for Yorkton. David Coyle scored twice and Dustin Renas had a goal and three assists.

Benjamin Polhill allowed five goals on 23 shots, and Zach Shaughnessy had two goals against on five shots. Ethan Farrow allowed three goals on 30 shots for Yorkton

The following night, the Weyburn Red Wings blanked the Bruins 3-0 at Affinity Place. Ethan Dekay opened the scoring 5:39 into the game, and Jaxson Ruthven doubled the lead with less than five minutes to play in the first. Neither team scored again until Jerome Maharaj's goal with 84 seconds to play in the game.

Shaughnessy started and stopped eight of the 10 shots he faced for Estevan, while Polhill made 24 saves on 25 shots. Angelo Zol earned the shutout for Weyburn with 25 saves.

Estevan will face the Melville Millionaires on Jan. 10, starting at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 is also the date for the national junior A trade deadline. The Bruins have been carrying 25 players.
