ESTEVAN — Estevan Fire Rescue Service members responded to collisions, alarms and more last week.
On Feb. 10, firefighters were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident in the central part of the city. Upon arrival, the duty officer determined that the fire department's assistance was not required, and units were stood down.
Firefighters also were requested to investigate an odd odour in a building in central Estevan. One member attended with gas detection equipment and determined there were no readings in the building, and that the smell was most likely caused by a plugged sewer stack due to the cold weather.
The same day, crews responded to another two-vehicle collision in the northeast part of the city. On arrival, it was determined that the fire department was not required, and the units were stood down.
Another two-vehicle occurred in central Estevan on Feb. 15. Once on scene, crews disabled the vehicles, cleaned up debris and conducted traffic control. The accident is still under investigation, said Estevan Deputy Fire Chief Kyle Luc.
Firefighters were called to a commercial fire alarm in the south part of the city on Feb. 18. Upon arrival, they found the stairwell of the building full of smoke. The smoke came from an electric motor for the sprinkler system that had failed. Crews ventilated the structure and turned the scene over to property management to have the issue dealt with.
