ESTEVAN – The Estevan Fire Rescue Service (EFRS) had a busy week, responding to a range of emergencies between Feb. 18 and Feb. 23, according to Fire Chief Rick Davies.

The department was dispatched to multiple incidents on Feb. 18, including a commercial fire alarm in the south-central area of the city at around 9 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find smoke in a stairwell caused by a mechanical failure in a pump room. Crews confirmed there was no fire, ventilated the building and addressed the issue.

Later that evening, at 8 p.m., a duty officer investigated a residential carbon monoxide alarm in the northwest part of the city. No carbon monoxide was detected, and the issue was traced back to a faulty alarm.

Shortly after, around 8:30 p.m., EFRS responded to a semi-rollover on Highway 18 east of Estevan. Two occupants were removed from the vehicle, with only minor injuries reported.

The department was then called to a residential fire alarm at around 10 p.m., which was determined to be a false alarm.

On Feb. 19, crews attended a two-vehicle collision in the central part of the city shortly after 5 p.m. No one was trapped, and minor injuries were reported.

A residential carbon monoxide alarm on Feb. 21 at 8 a.m. required fire crews to ventilate a home after detecting moderate CO levels. The issue was linked to the furnace, and the homeowner was advised to seek repairs.

Feb. 22 saw two highway-related incidents early in the morning. At 5:30 a.m., crews responded to a vehicle-deer collision on Highway 39 southeast of the city, followed by a single-vehicle crash on Highway 47 north of Estevan close to 7 a.m. No one was trapped, but minor injuries were reported.

Finally, on Feb. 23 at 1 p.m., firefighters were called to an elevator rescue in the city’s southeast area. Upon arrival, crews found no one trapped, and their assistance was not required.
