Estevan man charged with animal cruelty after incident

The EPS dealt with 38 occurrences over the weekend including criminal harassment, theft, fraud and more.

ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service responded to 38 occurrences over the weekend of Jan. 3-5, including criminal harassment, theft, fraud and more.

An Estevan man was also charged with causing an animal unnecessary suffering over the weekend. A report of an injured animal in the north part of the city was received on Jan. 3. Members attended, and a man was charged with injuring/endangering an animal. He was subsequently released with a court date in February.

EPS received a report of a theft from a local business the same day. Statement and surveillance video have been obtained and the matter is under investigation.

A motorist reported a semi-tractor-trailer passing vehicles unsafely on the highway approaching Estevan. Members located the semi, and the driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act.

Police received a report of criminal harassment and barking dogs under the bylaw on Jan. 4. The matter is still under investigation.

Police received a report of criminal harassment where a party is receiving text messages from an individual that is known to them and the messages are unwanted. The matter is under investigation.

The EPS received a report of a suspicious vehicle on the east side of the city. Members located the vehicle and spoke to the driver. It was determined that the person was dropping others off and nothing criminal or suspicious occurred.

On Jan. 5, EPS members attended to an insecure residence, which was determined to be vacant and for sale. The property was secured, and the associated real estate agent was contacted.

EPS arrested two Estevan individuals for obtaining lodging fraudulently on Jan. 6. They were both charged and released from custody on conditions and will appear in Estevan Provincial Court at a later date to speak to the charges.

The same day, EPS members made contact with a man from Sedley that had outstanding warrants for assault and mischief to property. The investigation determined that the warrants had been executed by the Regina Police Service several hours prior to him arriving in Estevan. He is scheduled to appear in Weyburn Provincial Court at a later date.
