ESTEVAN - The Estevan Police Service has had a busy start to the week.
EPS members attended to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of King Street and Souris Avenue North on Tuesday. The matter remains under investigation.
Police received a report of theft of property from a motor vehicle. The vehicle was insecure and a number of tools were taken. The matter is also under investigation, and the EPS reminds the public to be diligent and to secure their property and vehicles to prevent thefts.
The EPS received a report of a suspicious male looking into yards. Members attended and identified the male, who was advised of the complaint and asked to move along.
Police were called to a local hotel that had a customer who hadn’t checked out on time and wasn’t compliant in leaving the property. Members attended and he was sent on his way with no further issues.
A complaint came in regarding a dog being left in a vehicle while the owner was at work. The matter was forwarded onto the bylaw enforcement officer for further follow-up.
Police attended to a multiplex in response to a report of a disturbance. Two tenants in the building weren’t getting along and had a dispute over property. Members initially mediated the situation, but a short time later the individuals resumed the argument. EPS members attended again and spent considerable time working towards a negotiated return of property before the matter was resolved for the evening.
EPS received a call from a local business owner who located an injured banded pigeon. Police dispatch assisted the business owner to contact the owner of the bird who resides in Manitoba. Arrangements were made by the business owner for the safe return of the bird to its owner.
Police have recently received several complaints from citizens and property owners regarding youths gathering on a property and discarding large amounts of trash. Members attended to a similar complaint during the night shift and issued a summary offence ticket for littering with a voluntary payment amount of $580.
The EPS received a couple of complaints Monday regarding possible frauds. One occurrence is in relation to an individual renting equipment and then cancelling payment and the second occurrence is in regards to money being paid for services, after which the complainant had not received the services as agreed. Both matters remain under investigation.
Police attended to a downtown apartment building to keep the peace while one party picked up belongings. No issues resulted from the exchange.
Members responded to an alarm at a local facility. It was determined the cleaner set off the alarm and nothing criminal had occurred.
The EPS received a complaint of a disturbance at a residence, which resulted in the arrest of an Estevan youth for mischief. The youth was grossly intoxicated at the time and he was lodged in cells until sober. The investigation into the associated mischief continues.
Police received a driving complaint regarding a vehicle with a loud exhaust system that has repeatedly been noted to be speeding on Milne Crescent. The matter is still under investigation.
