Representatives of the Estevan Curling Club and supporters of the 2026 Scotties bid attended a press conference on Thursday.

ESTEVAN - The Estevan Curling Club has hosted some marquee curling events in the past few years.

Now it wants to bring a premier national competition to the Energy City.

The curling club held a press conference at Affinity Place on Thursday afternoon to announce it is working on a bid to host Curling Canada's 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts - the national women's curling championship. The event would be held in late January and early February, which is earlier than normal, due to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

It's expected that 18 of Canada's top women's curling teams would be in Estevan if the city were to be selected as the host venue.

During Thursday's press conference, representatives of the Estevan Curling Club announced they are accepting deposits for tickets to show Curling Canada there is sufficient support in Estevan for the event. The deposit would cost $100.

If Estevan is approved for the 2026 Scotties, purchasers would be contacted by Curling Canada with a pre-sale opportunity. The deposit would be applied to the ticket selection. If Estevan is unsuccessful, there would be a full refund.

In 2018, Estevan hosted the SaskTel Tankard, which is the provincial men's curling championship, and the Home Hardware Canada Cup of Curling, which is a national event.

Then last year, the city hosted the Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts, which is the provincial women's curling tournament, and the SaskTel Tankard.

More to come.
