REGINA - It was a great start to the season for members of the Estevan Extreme 16U male volleyball team.
The Extreme won gold at the Sask Cup 1 tournament for the 16U division in Regina, held from Jan. 31-Feb. 2. Estevan won all seven of its matches and didn't lose a set during the weekend.
Estevan opened the tournament by going 3-0 in pool play, winning 2-0 against Huskies Premier 15U (25-22, 25-14), Summit 15U (25-13, 25-19) and Huskies Elite 16 (25-15, 25-12). In the crossover round, Estevan won 2-0 over the Golden Ticket Volleyball Club (25-21, 25-20).
The Extreme then won 2-0 over the Yorkton Bongos 16U (25-18, 25-13) in the quarter-final round, the Summit 16U (25-18, 25-21) in the semifinals and the Huskies Premier 16U (25-21, 25-21) in the final to win the tournament.
