Update on the civic election in Estevan.

ESTEVAN - A fifth candidate has joined the councillor race for Estevan city council.

Kevin Andrews filed his nomination papers Thursday. This is the first time he has run for council.

He joins a field that already included incumbent Councillors Shelly Veroba and Kirsten Walliser, former councillor Brian Johnson and another first-time candidate Robin Wog.

Also on Thursday, Coun. Rebecca Foord - who is finishing up her first term on council - filed her nomination papers for mayor. Coun. Tony Sernick and first-time candidate Zacch Vandenhurk are also in the mayoral field.

As for the school boards, incumbent trustee Kevin Keating and newcomer Craig MacDonald have filed their papers to be the Estevan representatives on the South East Cornerstone Public School Division's board. Two trustees are elected from Estevan to Cornerstone.

Nobody has filed papers as of yet to be an Estevan trustee for the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division's board.

The deadline to file nomination papers is Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. Candidates will then have 24 hours to withdraw.

The election will be on Nov. 13.

SaskToday.ca and the Mercury will continue to have updates on who has filed papers.
