Update: Freezing rain closes some southeast highways

SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - The freezing rain that has been falling Sunday on southeast Saskatchewan has had an impact on highway conditions.

Highway 39 from Weyburn to Midale is closed, as is Highway 35 from Colgate to the Canada-U.S. border. Travel is not recommended on some highways in the Weyburn region. 

Also closed is Highway 47 from the Handsworth Road north of Stoughton to the junction with Highway 1.

According to the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure's Highway Hotline, a motor vehicle accident has occurred at Halbrite on Highway 39 between Weyburn and Midale. No further information was immediately available. 

Others routes in the southeast are listed as covered or partly covered due to ice.

A freezing rain warning is in effect for the southeast region.
