Honouring Christian Burt: Support for Daya & Cason GoFundMe campaign is to help Daya and Cason Burt after death of their father.

ESTEVAN – The family of Christian Burt, a longtime tow truck operator, is receiving an outpouring of community support following his tragic death in a workplace accident.

Burt, the owner and operator of Estevan Towing, was involved in a severe motor vehicle accident on Feb. 24. His daughter, Daya Burt, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and other unexpected financial burdens following his passing.

"My name is Daya Burt, I am starting a GoFundMe to provide some support and relief towards local owner and operator of 'Estevan Towing' Christian Burt's family at this time," the campaign reads. "On February 24th, my dad passed away tragically and unexpectedly due to injuries from a severe motor vehicle accident while doing what he loved and serving the community."

The accident happened between Macoun and Midale, said his son Cason Burt, noting that they are still waiting on the RCMP accident reconstruction report to learn more about what exactly happened that day.

Burt was a well-known figure in Estevan and surrounding areas, having worked as a tow truck operator for over 13 years.

"Christian Burt was a beloved community member and tow truck operator in and around Estevan, Saskatchewan for over 13 years. He loved his family and the people/businesses that supported us. Christian was a dedicated father, and friend who touched the lives of so many during times of difficulty/crisis," Daya Burt wrote.

The fundraiser has set a goal of $20,000, with $18,540 raised as of March 4.

"As our family grieves, we ask for any kind of donation towards the sudden expenses of funeral arrangements and other unexpected financial burdens. Any and all funds will go to Cason and I for supporting and helping us navigate such a hard situation," Daya Burt said.

In an update on Feb. 28, she expressed gratitude for the support received so far.

"Thank you for all the contributions to our GoFundMe so far! We really appreciate all the donations and the shares to our link. Cason and I are so incredibly grateful to our community and everyone who has supported us during this time. I can’t say a big enough thank you!" she wrote.
