Editor's Note: This is our latest Nelson Motors 4-H Member of the Month profile. We thank Nelson Motors for its continued support of this promotion. And we applaud 4-H for all it does for young people.

Name: Brenden Lischka

Club: Steelman 4-H Beef Club

Age: 17

Age group: Senior

Years in 4-H: 12

Brenden Lischka has had some great experiences in 4-H since he became a member more than a decade ago.

He joined Steelman 4-H Beef Club because his grandparents owned a farm, and he could direct money that he made from the sale of his 4-H steer towards his education and other future expenses. His favourite part of 4-H, though, is working with the cattle.

Lischka enjoys washing and fitting the animals, and getting them ready for the show ring.

"I also like helping the little guys in 4-H … and just being part of the 4-H club," said Lischka.

His father, an aunt and a grandfather were all part of 4-H.

In the past, the club's 4-H members attended the Vetavision program at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, which Lischka enjoyed a lot. Club members have held fundraisers. Earlier this year, they were inspired by the efforts of Jaycee Ross and his 4-H fundraising steer, which supported the new MRI machine for St. Joseph's Hospital in Estevan, so they donated a portion of their steer sales to the MRI campaign.

Lischka has been involved with judging, clipping and grooming demonstrations with the club. He has been involved in the show and sale each year and they have all been good, he said.

"We try to get as many buyers in as we can, and new buyers every year. We try to stop at a few new places to see if they'll come by," said Lischka.

And he has been involved with the 4-H public speaking program.

Lischka said recommends 4-H and the Steelman club to other people every chance he gets.
