Oxbow boys' basketball team wins bronze at Hoopla

The Black Knights competed at the 3A boys' tournament at Hoopla.

OXBOW - The Oxbow Prairie Horizons School Black Knights senior boys' basketball team travelled to Saskatoon on March 21 and 22 to compete at the Hoopla provincial basketball tournament.

Oxbow was ranked fourth in 3A boys, and they opened with a 75-50 loss to Clavet in the semifinal. Khalifa Elshein led the offensive attack with 16 points, while Dorian Sifton managed 12.

The Black Knights recovered to defeat No. 6 Waldheim 89-55 in the bronze medal game. Four different Knights had at least 15 points, with Mason Beriault recording 18 and Jhafet Julian putting up 17. The others were Sifton (16) and Elshein (15).

Hoopla is the provincial basketball tournament. It featured 24 teams, divided into five divisions, in each of the boys' and girls' competitions.

The Black Knights qualified for provincials when they won a tournament on March 14 and 15. As one of the top four teams in 3A, Oxbow was the host team for a regional showdown, and they defeated Canora 79-47 and Creighton 67-42 to punch their ticket for Hoopla.
