ESTEVAN - The Estevan area is getting treated to some great youth baseball, thanks to the Baseball Saskatchewan 11U AA Tier 2 B and the 15U AA Tier 1 provincial tournaments at Mel Murray Cactus Park.
The Estevan U15 AA Brewers went 1-1 on Friday, defeating the Sask Five Giants 14-4 but losing 7-6 to the Prince Albert Royals – just the Brewers' second loss of the season.
Estevan now has to wait to find out who they will face in the playoffs. If they have to go through the quarter-final round, they will play Saturday at 5 p.m. They could still advance directly to the semifinal round, which means their nexgt game would be Sunday at 10 a.m.
The U15 tournament will have round robin games at 9 a.m. Saturday, and the final round-robin game as well as a play-in game will at 1 p.m.
The gold medal game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
The U15 AA Brewers won both the regular season and playoff titles in Baseball Regina this season.
As for the 11U AA Tier 2 tournament, the Estevan Brewers opened the tournament with a 12-5 victory over the Regina Athletics. Estevan scored three times in the first inning, and then added six in the third and three in the fifth to take a 12-1 lead. Regina scored twice in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Estevan will face the Sask Five Giants on Saturday at noon and the Saskatoon Blue Jay Bombers at 6 p.m.
There also be round-robin games at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The tournament will wrap up with the Pool A final Sunday at 9 a.m., the final two games of the round robin for Pool B at noon, and the provincial final at 3:30 p.m.
