SOUTHEAST SASKATCHEWAN - Power outages have struck several communities in southeast Saskatchewan on March 14.
According to a message on X sent out by SaskPower at 2:15 p.m., crews have been dispatched and are determining the cause and repair time for an outage reported in Oxbow, Carlyle, Glen Ewen, Carnduff, Carievale, Gainsborough, Storthoaks, Alida, Frobisher and all surrounding rural areas.
An update message at 5:11 p.m. said crews were working to repair damaged equipment and estimated power would be restored at approximately 10 p.m. in those communities. But an update message at 6:17 p.m. said all power had restored in Oxbow, Carlyle, Glen Ewen, Carnduff, Carievale, Gainsborough, Storthoaks, Alida, Frobisher and all surrounding rural areas.
In an email to SaskToday, SaskPower said the outage affected about 900 customers.
There have also been multiple outages in Estevan during the afternoon. According to a message on X at 2:58 p.m., SaskPower said crews have been dispatched and are determining the cause and repair time for the outage reported in Estevan, Bienfait, Roche Percee and surrounding rural areas.
A follow-up message at 4:26 p.m. said crews were working to repair damaged equipment by the weather but are unable to provide a restoration time for Lampman, Steelman and surrounding rural areas north and east of Estevan. Electricity to Estevan, North Portal, Bienfait, Roche Percee has been restored.
An update at 6:24 p.m. said repairs had been completed and power restored in the remaining areas. If power hasn’t been restored, call SaskPower at 310-2220, or report it online at #skoutage.
SaskPower said the outage affected about 5,600 customers.
The Crown corporation says the outages were most likely due to transmission lines affected by the winds.
The outages continue into the evening.
At 6:45 p.m., SaskPower said crews had been dispatched and were determining the cause and repair time for an outage reported in Kisbey, Arcola, White Bear First Nations, Pheasant Rump First Nation and all surrounding rural areas
Then at 7:23 p.m., crews were dispatched and determining the cause and repair time for the outage reported south of Midale and surrounding areas.
A few minutes later, at 7:31 p.m., SaskPower reported emergency repairs would result in an outage starting from approximately 7:30-8 p.m. to repair a broken riser in Glen Ewen.
At 7:37 p.m., SaskPower said crews were working to repair damage caused by a broken crossarm but are unable to provide a restoration time for power reported in areas south of Steelman to North Portal and surrounding rural areas.
