Traffic stop in Estevan leads to charges

Police also make arrests for a bicycle theft, illegal use of a credit card.

ESTEVAN - It started with the Estevan Police Service stopping a vehicle for an insecure load. It led to charges against two people.

Members determined that the vehicle was unregistered, resulting in the driver being charged accordingly. During the stop, an occupant in the vehicle was found to have a warrant for his arrest for an impaired driving charge. He was arrested and later released after being served the required documents.

In other recent police news, police received a report on July 24 of an assault that took place at a residence. Statements were provided and the subject of the complaint was issued a written warning for her actions.

Police were notified of a 911 hang-up call. Members attended to the residence, determined that everyone was fine and children were playing with the phone.

The Prince Albert 911 service called, stating they had received a collision activation call from a cellphone. The location was provided to police. Members attended and did not locate a vehicle or person in the immediate area.

Police are investigating a 35-year-old man for failing to comply with the curfew requirements of a conditional sentence order. The matter remains under investigation.

Police received a report of a stolen purse. The suspects used the victim’s credit card and debit card at two local businesses. Police are reviewing video surveillance at both locations and the matter remains under investigation.

Members were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance. Police attended and spoke with both parties. One of them left and found a place to stay for the night.

Officers received a report on July 25 of an intoxicated female outside St. Joseph's Hospital. She was arrested and lodged in cells until she was sober.

Police located and arrested a male for theft after he allegedly stole a bicycle from an apartment complex in the city. The bike was recovered and was to be returned to the owner. The EPS has now had nine reported bicycle thefts in July.

Members followed up on a report of stolen credit cards being used at two business in the city. Surveillance footage was obtained and a male suspect was arrested and charged.

Police received a report of a hit and run that occurred July 26 in central Estevan. A semi-trailer unit struck a parked vehicle. A licence plate was obtained for the offending vehicle. The matter is under investigation.

A report came in of a stolen vehicle from an apartment complex in central Estevan. A statement was obtained from the victim. The matter is under investigation.

Two gas-and-go thefts were reported from a local service station.

Police received a report of a collision involving a vehicle and an e-bike at an intersection. The rider of the bicycle was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with minor injuries. The matter is under investigation.

A traffic stop resulted in the male motorist being charged with impaired driving. He was issued a driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
