UPDATE:
The 48th annual United Way Estevan Telethon continues to have excellent support.
The 33-hour fundraiser went on the air at 8 a.m. Friday morning, and it received $117,030 in donations by 5:30 p.m. The goal is to raise $348,000 by 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon for the United Way's member agencies and community partners.
The entire 33-hour event is taking place at the Estevan branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and will be broadcast live on Access Now TV. People can also watch it at unitedwayestevan.com.
This year's theme is You are the Community.
The telethon will feature entertainment throughout the 33 hours, with people of all ages lending their talents to the show.
There are also dozens of hand-crafted bid items available for people to bid on through a silent auction. The Hearts and Hands Quilting Guild has supplied a quilt for a raffle.
Proceeds of the telethon will be directed towards the United Way's member agencies and community impact projects.
To make a donation, you can call 306-340-4625, visit the United Way's website, send an e-transfer to [email protected], or stop by the legion. The number for the bid line is 306-340-4629.
The Mercury and SaskToday.ca will have updates during the weekend.
