Update (Feb. 18, 7 p.m.):

Power in Estevan has been restored. 

According to SaskPower, the original outage affected 743 customers, and the Crown corporation was able to restore roughly 100 by 6 p.m. Feb. 18, mostly in the area around St. Joseph's Hospital. The area that was still off was largely north of Highway 39 and west of Souris Avenue.

Update (Feb 18, 5:33 p.m.): 

SaskPower crews are onsite repairing the fault that has caused the outage in Estevan and surrounding areas. Crews will continue to work on the outage but there is still no estimated time for full service return.

Original report (Feb. 18, 3:45 p.m.):

ESTEVAN – Crews continue to work on restoring power in Estevan and surrounding areas after an unplanned outage left some residents without electricity on Tuesday. While power has been restored to some areas, SaskPower has not provided an estimated time of restoration for remaining customers.

According to SaskPower, crews were first dispatched to investigate the cause of the outage around 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 18. By early afternoon, they were still working to determine the issue and repair timeline. The latest update at 3:21 p.m. confirmed that restoration efforts were ongoing, with no estimated time for full service return.

The power outage comes as Estevan faces extremely cold temperatures. Daytime highs reached only -25 C on Tuesday, and the forecast for the night calls for lows near -40 C again.

Meanwhile, SaskPower has announced the cancellation of a planned outage for Feb. 19 that was set to affect rural customers in the Estevan-Bienfait-Roche Percee area. The outage, originally scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will no longer take place.

SaskPower continues to provide updates as crews work to restore electricity. Residents affected by the outage are encouraged to check SaskPower’s website and social media channels for the latest information.
