The Estevan Bruins fell 3-0 to the Weyburn Red Wings Saturday night in the first matchup of the season between the Highway 39 rivals.
Weyburn opened the scoring on a power-play goal by Turner McIntyre 8:34 into the first period. The game was the Red Wings' Teddy Bear Toss Night, so the bears littered the ice after the Wings scored. Weyburn outshot the Bruins 11-2 in the first period and 13-5 in the second, but only managed the one goal in the first 40 minutes.
Max Chakrabarti scored 8:37 into the third period to put Weyburn up by two, and
Braigh LeGrandeur finished the scoring with just over two minutes to play in the third with an empty-net goal.
Kyle Kelsey stopped 31 shots for Estevan, while Dazza Mitchell had 20 saves to get the shutout for Weyburn. Thirteen of his saves came in the third period.
The Red Wings haven't lost in regulation in 13 games.
Up next for the Bruins (5-7-1-1) is their second northern road trip of the season. They will visit the reigning SJHL champions, the Melfort Mustangs, on Nov. 13, and the La Ronge Ice Wolves on Nov. 15 and 16.
