CARLYLE - Located at 306 Second Street West, the Carlyle Happy Gang was formed many years ago and maintains a beautiful facility.
Their new executive for 2022-23 consists of president Deborah Lothian, vice-president Harriet Gooden, secretary Pat Anderson, and treasurer Audrey Young.
The Carlyle Happy Gang has a seating capacity of over 80. It offers a fully-operational kitchen and with recent donations from the Carlyle District Lions Club, has a big-screen television together with Wi-Fi. New flooring was installed in 2021 and recently new chairs have been purchased.
The Happy Gang regularly books out their hall for anniversaries, birthdays and other special occasions. Spades is played every Monday and crib every Wednesday starting at 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome. The hall is also rented out to various companies and organizations for training seminars and the like.
The new executive wishes to promote additional activities and is eager to attract new members.
“We have a great facility that is being woefully under-utilized,” said Lothian. “We have two pool tables and two shuffleboard tables. There are so many other things we could do. Line dancing, board games, Bingos, puzzles, Mahjong, start a book club, art classes, aerobics, cooking classes, the possibilities are endless.
“The building is sitting empty far too often and we just need to stir up some interest and ideas. It looks like the pandemic is over and we must start getting people coming out again.”
To assist with their recruitment efforts, the Happy Gang will be holding a seniors’ roast beef supper on Sept. 22. Members will be asked to bring a friend. The cost is $15 per person. As well, a military whist tournament is scheduled for Nov. 5.
