In consultation with Crown prosecutors, the Saskatchewan RCMP announced on Jan. 21 it had charged Carievale area resident Michael Gordon Jackson with one count of abduction in contravention of a custody or parenting order. Additionally, investigators obtained a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest. Jackson allegedly took his daughter in mid-November to keep her from getting immunized against the coronavirus.

The new Estevan Early Years Family Resource Centre marked the beginning of a new era for Estevan families on Jan. 31. The ribbon was cut in the presence of the board members, representatives of the South East Cornerstone Public School Division, the City of Estevan, the Estevan Chamber of Commerce, United Way Estevan and community leaders working with children. The expansion of the previous Estevan Family Resource Centre and the following move to a new permanent location at the ECS came through funding from the Government of Saskatchewan.
