ESTEVAN - Students and staff at Spruce Ridge School spent Friday learning about Indigenous history and the importance of truth and reconciliation.

Wendy Alexson, an elder from the Kahkewistahaw First Nation, located north of Broadview, spoke about her experiences in the residential school system. Most of the audience donned orange shirts during the speech.

The speech occurred the day before Sept. 30, which is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
