ASSINIBOIA - Visitors, volunteers and staff took part in the Come and Go celebration for the 25th anniversary of the Assiniboia and District Museum held on July 30.
Visitors entered draws for adults or youth at the welcome and registration table manned by volunteers Bernice Woolhouse and Lorraine Silzer. Everyone toured the Museum inside and many ventured to see the outside displays in the Quonset and Pole Shed.
Master of Ceremony was Bob Scott for this occasion. In his remarks, he mentioned that Mike, Dwight and Brian built the gazebo and had expressed gratitude to the the many volunteers that the Society and Museum has had over the years.
Scott mentioned visitors comparing the Museum with the classic vintage cars to the Ford Museum in Michigan, and Assiniboia and District Historical Museum was at a higher level than the Ford Museum.
Scott announced recognition on behalf of the Assiniboia and District Historical Society (Museum) to long serving volunteers Yvette Wojcik, Bernice Woolhouse and Lorraine Silzer. Shirley Scott presented a corsage to each of these lovely volunteers.
Scott proclaimed that Bernice Woolhouse and Lorraine Silzer will be presented with the Lt. Governor Saskatchewan Volunteer Medals on Thursday, August 26. Bernice and Lorraine were congratulated from the crowd.
Town Councillor Peter Kordus brought greetings from the Town of Assiniboia. Yvette Wojcik spoke of the Museum’s accomplishment with having the current building and the people that volunteered from the beginning and are no longer with us.
Draws were made for three youth prizes and three adult prizes. All enjoyed assorted beverages along with donated cupcakes or cookies that Southland Co-op Bakery baked for this special occasion.
The Society and Museum appreciated everyone that helped make this celebration so memorable.
