On the heels of releasing his latest recording, Juno-nominated Christian rapper Manafest performs Wednesday night at a skateboard event at Summit Drive Church.
Manafest, aka Chris Greenwood, releases his fourth album, The Chase, today. The video No Plan B is already getting heavy rotation on MuchMusic. Fire in the Kitchen, the first single off the CD, has been getting moderate spin on rock and Christian stations across Canada.
Greenwood's stellar musical career began with a skateboarding accident in 1998. A sponsored competitive skater at 17, he was knocked flat for months with a serious injury to his foot. Having made skating his central passion, he discovered a new purpose by writing lyrics while bedridden.
As he re-emerged as a hip-hop artist, Manafest caught the attention of Trevor McNevan of the Ontario band Thousand Foot Krutch, leading to a distribution deal. His 2007 sophomore release, Glory, was nominated in the Juno category of contemporary Christian/gospel album of the year.
Summit Drive Skate Night is a weekly event for young "shredders." It takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church, 1975 Summit Drive.
