CARLYLE - Bill Slykhuis is a well-known businessman in southeast Saskatchewan.

Slykhuis, 51, owns and operates Arcola-based B & A Holdings. His company specializes in all types of outdoor work including Sierra Stone and Rubber Stone products.

Rubber Stone is manufactured using strong high-quality material, making it a smart choice for a range of extreme weather conditions. It covers cracked, pitted, shaled and deteriorated surfaces more effectively than other resurfacing products.

Slykhuis covers a large dealership area, including Neepawa and Swan River, Man., and many locations in southeast Saskatchewan, including Yorkton, Whitewood, Moosomin, Estevan, Weyburn, Torquay and other communities extending to the Canada-U.S. border.

B & A Holdings can install Rubber Stone on driveways, basement floors, decks, garages, and shop and office. They also install epoxy polyaspartic flake and quartz coatings. During the past two years, they have completed many local jobs in the area including sidewalks in Arcola, Redvers and Whitewood.

Slykhuis and his crews can also do any sort of landscaping work, including deck building, demolition, light carpentry, skid steer work and winter snow clearing, brick driveways and fire pits, and asphalt sealing and crack filling. They also do tree removal, tree cutting and stump grinding.

“I started out with a lawn mower and a chain saw. I worked oil rigs and would do landscaping cutting grass and trimming trees,” said Slykhuis.

B & A Holdings was incorporated in 2006 and his logo has a lot of meaning behind it. “First of all, thanks to my good friend Kara Bunz for designing the logo. The Green B is for me, the A is for my wife Amy, who has passed away, so that’s where the white wings come in. The A goes into a J which is for my son Jake and my stepson Jesse Woodland. And if you turn the logo sideways, the B turns into a M for my daughter Maisie.”

Slykhuis presently has a crew of seven hardworking employees including Blake Piper and Jake.

“I truly appreciate the efforts of my staff. Jim Stitt, Samantha Smulan, Turner Knockaert, Mike Slager, and Cristal Neumann, you are wonderful employees.”

He recently purchased a new shop on the west side of Arcola where the old skating rink was situated. The building has been renovated and Taylor Osadchuk will be opening a hair salon in his premises, the Vibrance Beauty Lounge, on Oct. 1 at 307 Clare Street.

B & A Holdings pride themselves on their personal touch and commitment to each project. They specialize in assisting their clients by increasing the beauty and value of their homes by creating elegant outdoor living spaces. B & A Holdings is committed to offering exceptional personal consultation to ensure that they understand their client’s goals for every project.

Business has been very steady the past few years and Slykhuis takes immense pride in promptly returning calls to either new and existing clients for consultations or advice, often the same day. He is also a strong and generous supporter for many local events in Arcola and area.

B & A Holdings has a Facebook page and often posts regular information about the jobs they are doing. Slykhuis can be reached at 306-577-1643.
