WEYBURN - The board of trustees of the South East Cornerstone Public School Division handled a number of items at their final regular meeting of the 2021-22 school year on June 15.
Members heard an in-person appeal for some school bus route considerations during the session.
Kenda Kittelson – speaking on behalf of her husband and family, as well as on behalf of Leesa and Jeremy Walcer and Leyna and Tim Cugnet – was asking the board to review their policy regarding bus pick-ups of children destined for Assiniboia public school in Weyburn.
A second appeal registered by Darlene Tripp was also to be considered by the board and administration.
The appeal suggested that no extra buses would be required since current buses on the nearby routes do not run at full capacity.
The board heard the request, asked a few questions regarding the current and future enrolments, who are or would be bus riders, and promised the delegation a timely response.

Carol Flynn, vice-chairwoman for the board, who was conducting the meeting, noted that two schools from Cornerstone had been awarded two of the six $1,000 Public Schools of Saskatchewan Student Citizenship Awards.
MacLeod Elementary School in Moosomin and Ogema School submitted and were awarded the honour.

Administrative procedures regarding concussion protocol and First Aid and CPR training were delivered to the board of trustees.
Lynn Little, director of education, brought the board up-to-date on the improved procedures.
Aaron Hiske, superintendent of education, said staff training on concussion protocol takes place on the first day of the new school year.
Additional pieces of information and training protocols have also been added to the first aid response protocols by the provincial Occupational Health and Safety department.

The Cornerstone board now takes a brief summer break with the next meeting being an annual strategic planning session in mid-August and another in late August. There will be a resumption of their regular in camera sessions on the morning of Sept. 21, followed by a regular open business meeting in the afternoon of that same day.
