ARCOLA - Just east of Arcola, on the north side of Highway 13, a large white building with a convoy of trucks declares this to be the home of Monster Enterprises.
The Observer recently caught up with owner Graham Carter, who heartily agreed to an interview.
Carter, now 41, was born and raised in Provost, Alta. After working the oilpatch in Fort McMurray for several years, he came back home to the family farm. In 2010, he was operating his own hydrovac and accepted a two-week oilfield job near Arcola.
It was quite the decision. Carter fell in love with the area and formed a business known and still operating as Littlehawk, which he sold in 2015. A couple of years later, he formed his present company, Monster Enterprises.
“Southeastern Saskatchewan has been very good to me,” said Carter. “I have worked in the oilpatch all my life and have been lucky to be a part of many of the boom years.”
Monster Enterprises does hydrovacing, water hauling and pressure testing. He has recently purchased a mat washing unit used in pipelining and oilfield rig work. Monster has seen steady growth and now has 15 full-time employees and owns and operates 13 trucks. His present building is 7,200 square feet and he is adding on an 80-by120-foot extension which will include a large wash bay.
“While the oil patch has seen a slowdown since the last boom year of 2015, I really feel things are turning around. We are starting to see a noticeable increase in business,” Carter added. “I am very optimistic about staying busy in the oilpatch for many years to come.”
Carter lives on a beautiful acreage just south of Arcola and has two children. Son Cruz is nine and daughter Autumn is six. He is a stalwart contributor to various organizations and regularly donates to many fundraisers in the Arcola-Carlyle area.
“I am very happy living and working here in southeast Saskatchewan. Our province has good honest people that aren’t afraid of hard work. I am very fortunate to have employees of the highest quality. It’s a great place to raise a family.”
