About 90 per cent of car seats inspected at a car seat clinic on Thursday were either installed incorrectly or not being used properly.
RCMP Weyburn Combined Traffic Services, in partnership with Weyburn Police Service, Saskatchewan Prevention Institute, SGI and Canadian Tire Weyburn, conducted a car seat clinic on Thursday afternoon.
Four car seat technicians were on hand and completed inspections on over 80 child restraint devices at the clinic. The high number of improperly installed car seats reinforces the importance of having car seat clinics such as these.
While no enforcement actions were conducted during this clinic, three child restraint devices were found to be expired. The parents or caregivers were provided a new one, at no cost, that had been purchased with funding provided by SGI Traffic Safety Promotions.
Weyburn Traffic Services would like to thank all those who participated to a very successful clinic and ensuring the safety of children in and around Weyburn.
For anyone who may have missed the clinic and wishes to have an inspection completed or has questions about their child restraint device, local car seat technicians can be found online at www.sgi.sk.ca/online_services/locators/carseattech/ or contact RCMP Weyburn Combined Traffic Services at 306-848-4648 or Weyburn Police Service at 306-848-3250.
