CORONACH - The Town of Coronach announced that it received $5.9 million to replace its 1964 water and sewer lines and create sustainability for the business district. The funds will be used for replacement of the water and sewer lines, along with street paving and new sidewalks in the business district.
Some of these lines are almost 60 years old and are in need of replacement to ensure a viable and sustainable business area in the town. The water line to the treatment plant will also be replaced.
Coronach is very fortunate to have this major upgrade to its infrastructure with the hope of retaining existing businesses and attracting new businesses to the downtown area.
“We are very pleased to have received funding of this magnitude to replace aging water and sewer infrastructure that has served well beyond its expected life span,” said Catherine MacKay Wilson, chief administrative officer for the Town of Coronach.
“This funding will alleviate a serious future tax burden on our local community and stimulate business retention and expansion for our economy.”
The Town of Coronach will be “reaching out to the public with information sessions and engagement to learn what our businesses and residents feel is important to a redesign of Centre Street and the two adjacent streets” said Mayor Calvin Martin. “We have a window of opportunity to impact the design of our business district with this funding and we want the business owners and residents to share their ideas.”
A community engagement session will be held Thursday, January 13 at the Coronach curling rink lobby from 6 to 8 p.m. A coffee chat will be held at the Rustic Tavern from Monday, January 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.
